Share spreadsheets without the spreadsheet Beta

Sending a raw .xlsx invites accidental edits, version confusion, and “I can't open this” replies. Converting excel to pdf freezes your data into a clean, printable document that looks identical for everyone. This tool is in beta and converts the first worksheet of your workbook — details and limitations below.

How to convert Excel to PDF

  1. Drop your .xlsx file onto the page. Rendering happens locally in your browser.
  2. Click convert. The first worksheet is rendered as a neat table and saved to PDF.
  3. Download and check the layout before sharing.

Tips

  • Put the sheet you want first. Only the first worksheet converts — reorder tabs in Excel beforehand if needed.
  • Keep it simple. Plain data tables with headers convert most reliably; freeze panes and filters don't carry over meaningfully.
  • Wide sheet? Narrow your columns or split the data before converting — very wide tables can get cramped on the page.

Beta limitations — please read

Only the first worksheet is converted; other sheets, charts, pivot tables, and images are not included. Advanced formatting (conditional formatting, custom number formats beyond basics) may simplify, and formulas export as their current values. Very large sheets can be slow to render. For straightforward data tables the output is clean and dependable; for complex workbooks, print-to-PDF from Excel itself remains the gold standard.

Formatting for a clean PDF

Treat the PDF as a printout: set sensible column widths, use clear header rows with bold text, and keep the data area compact — sprawling sheets with scattered values look messy on the page. Remove gridline clutter by keeping only the data you want seen; empty columns at the edges create awkward white space. A quick Print Preview in Excel (even if you don't print) shows roughly what the converter will produce.

Sharing vs. collaborating

PDF is the right format when the numbers are final: invoices, reports, price lists. But if the recipient needs to sort, filter, or audit formulas, send the spreadsheet itself — a PDF of data they'll need to manipulate just creates retyping work. Choose the format that matches what they'll actually do with it.
