What splitting a PDF is good for
Sometimes you don't need the whole document — just chapter 3, the invoice page, or the signed last page. When you split pdf files with GroPDF, you pull exactly the pages you want into brand-new PDFs, without touching the originals. It's perfect for sharing one section of a long report, extracting your boarding pass from a booking confirmation, or breaking a scanned book into chapters.
How to split a PDF
- Drop one or more PDFs onto the page. Everything stays on your device the whole time — files are never uploaded.
- Fix up the pages: tap a page to preview it, tap ⟳ to rotate a sideways page, or × to remove a page. Need another file? Tap the + tile at the end of the strip.
- Tap the scissors ✂️ between any two pages to cut there. Each cut becomes a boundary between two output PDFs.
- Click Split PDF. Every part shows its pages right away — tap any page for a full preview, rename the file if you like, then download each part separately or grab them all as one ZIP.
Tips
- Split first, then merge. Splitting pairs beautifully with Merge PDF: pull the pages you need from several documents, then combine them into one.
- Too many pages to cut? If you need to delete just a few pages from a long document, Organize PDF lets you remove them visually instead.
- Rotated pages stay rotated. Any rotation you apply with ⟳ is baked into the split output PDFs.
Limitations
Split pages are copied as-is from your originals; if you need them as images instead, use PDF to JPG.
Steps at a glance
- Upload your PDF — all its pages appear as thumbnails in a strip.
- Tap the scissors icon between any two pages to mark a cut point there.
- Review your sections; tap a cut point again to remove it if you change your mind.
- Click Split, optionally rename each part, then download the parts individually or all together as a ZIP.
Why split PDFs with GroPDF?
Most splitters only offer crude options like 'split every N pages' or make you type page ranges blind. GroPDF shows you every page as a thumbnail so you can see exactly where you're cutting — tap between pages, and the cut markers appear right there. You can split one file or several at once, rotate sideways pages before splitting, and rename each output part so you don't end up with 'part1.pdf, part2.pdf' confusion.
Common use cases
- Extracting a single chapter from an ebook to share with a study group.
- Splitting a scanned batch of documents into individual files.
- Separating a combined invoice file into per-client documents.
- Pulling the appendix out of a report into its own file.
Things to know
Splitting copies pages without re-encoding, so quality is preserved — but password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. The tool splits at page boundaries; it can't split a single page into pieces (use Crop PDF for that).
Frequently asked questions
Can I split a PDF into more than two parts?
Yes. Place as many cut points as you like — each section between cuts becomes its own PDF file.
Do I have to type page numbers?
No. You tap the scissors icon between page thumbnails to mark cuts visually. It's much harder to make an off-by-one mistake than typing ranges.
Can I download all parts at once?
Yes. After splitting you can download each part individually or grab everything as a single ZIP archive.
Will the split files keep their quality?
Yes. Pages are copied without re-encoding, so each part is identical in quality to the corresponding pages in the original.
Can I split multiple PDFs in one go?
Yes, you can upload several PDFs and set cut points in each. All parts are produced in one batch.
